This performative artwork explores the unique ways each individual experiences and understands death. Rather than a memorial to the deceased, this collection explores the imprint that is left on those who remain. Stories are collected through an interactive experience in which the participant records a brief reflection of one event that helped define their perception of death. When finished with their storytelling, the participant then burns a handmade, paper cut moth, a cross-cultural symbol of death and the desire for self destruction. The ashes of this gesture are collected and displayed, prompting a contemplation of creation vs. destruction and valuable vs. invaluable.
